Ginger Snaps

From Dora Hazzard

¾ cup shortening
1 cup sugar
¼ cup molasses
1 beaten egg
2 cups flour
¼ teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon ginger

Cream together sugar and shortening.  Add molasses and egg.  Beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients.  Mix well.  Roll into small balls about the size of a small walnut.  Dip top in sugar.  Place 2” apart on lightly greased cookie sheet.  Bake 10-12 minutes at 375 or until golden brown.  Be careful not to over bake.

Note:  Makes about 5 dozen
